COMING SOON...
"Air
Guitar"
I've just finished a new Glow-in-the-Dark * piece which will be available at your local needlework shop soon. By daylight, the little silhouettes in this piece appear to be playing 'air guitar' but... in the dark, both their bodies and their guitars are visible. If you'd prefer that the guitars appear in daylight, you could use the suggested DMC substitute... DMC 3348. (This chart, like ALL of my designs, has NO fractional stitches)
* "Pirate Treasure: The Oak Island Mystery" also has a Glow-in-the-Dark option.
STITCHES OF HOPE
Kathy and Neale Unruh (owners of
Thread & Eye,
my local needlework shop) and I are presenting our first annual charity raffle to support the
London Abused Women's Centre.
The stitchers at Thread & Eye are generously donating their time and talents to decorate a Christmas tree with beautiful handmade decorations. We've been fortunate enough to receive the awesome help of several top designers... Thea Dueck of
The Victoria Sampler,
Brenda Franklin of
Brenda Franklin Designs
and Linda Hinckley of
Lavender Wings
have each very generously contributed a beautiful ornament.
We're also very lucky to have a contribution from California... Norma B., who originally conceived the charity tree idea for Kelsey's Needle Krafts in Placerville, will be sending us her stitched piece. Tickets will go on sale this Fall ($2.00 each or 3/$5.00) with all profits going to the LAWC. The draw will be held at 12 Noon on December 3, 2005 at the Thread & Eye. The lucky winner will receive the entire tree-full of Christmas ornaments, along with a gift certificate which can be redeemed for a live tree. If you'd like to donate a handmade Christmas ornament to this very worthy cause or purchase raffle tickets, please contact Kathy and Neale at threadneye@3web.net
WATERCOLOURS
Every now and then, we all get thrown a curve. Recently, my husband and I were thrown one that took the form of Prostate Cancer. Thankfully, since his surgeon managed to remove all the cancer, no further treatments have been needed and he's been recovering very well. Guy's diagnosis resulted from a routine, yearly test. If you'd like to learn more about PSA tests, please visit... the Canadian Prostate Cancer Network or the National Cancer Institute.
Coming to terms with such a monumental and disturbing event is an all-consuming matter and everyone develops their own coping mechanisms. Guys' interest in music led him to spend time with his computer and keyboards, lost in the layers of his GarageBand compositions ( GarageBand is a component of Macintosh's OSX that functions as a home recording studio). I was pleasurably absorbed, for hours, in painting. An assortment of recent and earlier watercolours is below...
