The extra elements in this 50's piece weren't able to 'breath life' into so grey a character.

Although the motel sign, represented by FiestaWare colours, was bright and cheery (as were the flames and the neon 'DRIVE IN' sign) the bowling pins and couple sipping a soda were presented as silhouettes... and provided nothing in the way of colour. The face in this design would definitely need to be stitched in flesh tones.
