CROSS STITCH DESIGNS
'Pirate Treasure'
Design Diary
Several books and web-sites, an online discussion group and a television documentary have presented details of the events that occured on the island and offer a variety of theories.
In the course of reading about Oak Island, I learned about the discovery of stones, inscribed with an indecipherable code. And about deep excavations that revealed wooden platforms every 10' for the first 30 feet. A subterranean booby-trap tunnel, that channeled water from the western shore to the excavation site, was discovered to be the cause of flooding that occured when diggers hit the 90' level. A second tunnel, from the southern shore to the hole, had an identical effect when searchers dug deeper. Some writers suggested that Oak Island was concealing a fortune in Spanish treasure from a sunken galleon. Others thought that Captain Kidd may have buried some of his ill-gotten gains on the island. My interest and curiosity grew with each newly uncovered element of the story and each fantastic theory that I read. Images of Spanish conquerers, pirates and treasure maps began to grow in my head... and the concept for a new cross-stitch design was born.

Thank you very much for "exploring" this design with me... I hope you've enjoyed the "voyage".
