'VELVETEEN RABBIT'
Design Diary

The descriptive quality of Margery Williams 'Velveteen Rabbit' is so precise that images burst into her readers minds... and mine was no exception.

Reading her beautiful text and designing this piece was such a joy that reliving the process by building this Design Diary is an added pleasure... I hope you enjoy it too.

As you can see, the basic figure in this piece was retained... he was just fleshed out a little.

Please click on the thumbnail sketch to continue your exploration of the "Velveteen Rabbit".

The Velveteen Rabbit's toy companions in the nursery play an important part in his perceptions of reality, love and his role in life.

As such, they needed to be included in this piece.

The Velveteen Rabbit's desperate need to discover 'What is Real?' is an essential element of the story.

I tried hard to capture the magic and beauty of the Nursery Fairy scene in Margery Williams story...

As an extremely disorganized person
(living with 2 other equally messy people) I find it fascinating to learn how stitchers manage to organize their tools and materials.

Thank you very much for taking this little tour of the "Velveteen Rabbit"... I hope you enjoyed it. If you haven't already read Margery Williams delightful story, I hope that you've been prompted to do so.
