CROSS STITCH DESIGNS
Liberty
'Hidden' in this piece are several images that relate to the theme of Freedom. Clockwise from the Declaration of Independence excerpt, you will find: a small portion of the U.S. flag; a George Washington quarter; Geronimo; Josiah Henson; the Four Freedoms; Abraham Lincoln; Sojourner Truth and the date August 26, 1920 (the date women got the vote in the U.S.)
There are many people whose names I would have liked to include in this design and I'm sure you have many of your own. Please don't hesitate to add others to your needlework. You might backstitch their names along the rays of LIBERTY's crown; using lighter floss, you might stitch them on top of a dark area or in one of the empty hollows of her crown... or any other place that looks appealing to you.
FABRIC: 18-count White Aida
STITCH COUNT: 279 stitches high x 205 stitches wide
DESIGN SIZE: Approx. 15 3/4" high x 12" wide
THREADS REQUIRED: White or Blanc (1 skein)/DMC 164 (2 skeins)/DMC 310 (1 skein)/DMC 317 (3 skeins)/DMC 318 (3 skeins)/DMC 415 (2 skeins)/DMC 502 (2 skeins)/DMC 762 (1 skein)/DMC 832 (2 skeins)/DMC 3799 (4 skeins)
Please note that the number of skeins listed refers to the amount needed to stitch this piece as the model was sewn... on 18-count fabric using a single strand of floss throughout. I prefer the sketchy, muted effect that using a single strand of thread produces and feel that it enhances the 'ghosted' appearance of "Hidden Image' pieces.
