Seascape
Miniature
Suggested Retail Price: $6.00 CAN/US

Kathy and Neale Unruh (owners of Thread & Eye needlework shop in London, Ontario) gave this piece the perfect finishing touch... a pair of high-flying seagulls. Thank you very much, Kathy & Neale, for your inspired embellishment and for letting me use your photo.
Two 'designer tricks' help make the Seascape Miniature a quick and interesting stitch. While most of the design is sewn using full-crosses, the sea and the rocks which fade out as they rise to the sky are quickly sketched using half-crosses. The other designer trick? The technique of 'negative space' (using the empty spaces in a design to define shapes) is time-saving and produces an image with a strong artistic flare.
This Seascape is rendered mostly in earthy shades of thread which pass from palest eggshell to deep charcoal. The suble variations of the sea are stitched with a beautiful Needle Necessities floss called Tapestry Blue (#113)
