Thimbelina

The Needlework Fairy

Average Retail Price: $9.00CAN ($7.00US)

Thimbelina has a new friend, Purl/PEARL: The Knitting Fairy

Regally perched atop her purple velvet Pin-Cushion, this little fairy incorporates several items that are essential to our favourite pastime... needlework. Travelling clockwise from her Thimble/Hat/Crown, you'll find some Bead-Headed Pins and a Threaded Needle; her Pin-Cushion/Chair/Throne; a Pair of Scissors and a Needle Threader. Look closely now... her Needle/Wand/Sceptre is really another Sewing Needle and her Bodice is a Floss Bobbin.

Areas of embellishment are as follows: Thimbelina's Thimble/Hat/Crown (Gold Braid); Bead-Headed Pins and Threaded Needle (Gold Braid); Thread in Needle (rayon floss); Scissors and Needle Threader (Gold Braid and Blending Filament); Needle/Wand/Sceptre/Needle (Gold Braid and Blending Filament); Bobbin Bodice (rayon floss); the tips of Thimbelina's Wings and her Skirt (Blending Filament) and the Fairy Dust falling from her 'Wand' (Mill Hill beads, Gold Braid and Blending Filament).

FABRIC: Lynda Johnson beautifully stitched the 'Thimbelina' model that you see above. She used 32-count Antique White Jobelan, stitched over 2, from Wichelt (#862-101). My own original 'Thimbelina', seen below, was stitched on 16-count Tumbleweed Aida by Permin #355137 (similar to DMC 3023)

Marna Billings, an excellent stitcher from Urbandale, Iowa, did a beautiful job on her 'Thimbelina'. She enjoys fun, food and close relationships with other members of weekly stitching nights at her local needlework shop... JUST CROSS-STITCHING.

Lynn G. sent this lovely picture of Thimbelina which was sewn by her daughter's friend, Jen K. She's a young, fairly new stitcher and she's done a beautiful job... Well done, Jen!

DESIGN AREA: Approx. 8" wide x 10" high (on 16-count fabric)

STITCH COUNT: 124 stitches wide x 156 stitches high

Some stitchers find it useful to know the number of stitches sewn with each thread colour... the number in brackets (which follows the thread identification number) gives the number of stitches sewn with that particular colour...

"Seating the little figure tamed the belligerent aspect of her personality. It also allowed the introduction of another needlework tool... a Pin-Cushion."
