Stitcher Finishes

Shirley T. of Ottawa
found a brilliant way to combine her love of stitching with a tribute to the staff and ladies of her local 'Curves' group.

She created this beautiful, customized version of
"Sisters".

Well done, Shirley, and congratulations on your success at 'Curves'!

Terry Louise of Tasmania
also chose to adjust her 'Sisters' needlework. She gave the "i" lady some red ringlets and allowed the pregnant mother and the career woman to swap letter-posters.

Like Shirley, Terry Louise not only did a fabulous customization of this design, she too gave it away... she donated her 'Sisters' stitching to the Cancer Council of Tasmania for their Pink Ribbon Day Breakfast fund-raiser.

I'm honoured that you chose my design for your wonderful contribution to this very worthy cause, Terry Louise... thank you.

Industry News

Are you a fan of Needle Necessities floss? If so, you were probably quite dismayed to learn that this company is no longer in business. Don't worry though... a new Southern California company, Threadworx, is preparing to create substitutions for these beautiful threads.

Fireside Stitchery provides a list of Needle Necessities-to-Threadworx conversions. Click on this link and go to 'Threads'... 'Multicolored Cotton'... 'Needle Necessities Overdyed' for their conversion list.

Fabric Substituion

Unfortunately, 18-count Forget Me Not Blue Aida is no longer available.

If you are stitching the little Mail Art piece, "A Robin's Christmas", I would like to recommend that you replace this fabric with 18-count Light/Sky Blue Aida (#3793-108).

Creativfestival Fall 2007

Last month, I had the pleasure of renewing old acquaintance with several fellow designers and with Carla Canonico and John De Fusco, founders of the multi-faceted needlework magazine 'A Needle Pulling Thread'. I also, finally, got to meet 2 remarkable people whose e-mail friendship I've enjoyed for several years.

Carolyn Mitchell may be better known to some of you as Mrs. T... she's the much-loved owner of Mrs. Twitchett's Eye in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She's also the creative force behind the beautiful 'Carolyn Mitchell Designs' and in great demand as a needlework instructor.

Sandra Rogers, owner of Loving Stitch in Surrey BC, has joined her family in 'the trip of a lifetime'. She's travelled through Alaska, crossed Canada from West to East and is now starting the North/South leg of their journey. Their fascinating trip is being documented online.

Unfortunately, and in spite of dragging my ancient camera on walks with our dog (you never know when a brilliant photo of a tree, the fog or fence posts might arise!), I never remember to bring it to special events. Sandra and I posed while her husband snapped this picture... Sandra's the tall one on the right.

Just a Little Reminder

In 2005, Wendy Mesley (a popular TV journalist and co-host of CBC's consumer show, 'Marketplace') was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Her diagnosis, subsequent treatment and recovery led her to investigate the rising incidence of all forms of cancer throughout North America. The end result was an informative and much-repeated television show, "Chasing the Cancer Answer" which exposed startling facts about the fight against cancer and our environment. CBC has also provided online tips about avoiding carcinogens in common household products.

Please don't forget to familiarize yourself with the signs of Ovarian Cancer and to ensure that the men in your life remember their PSA checks.

Thank you so much for your visit and for taking the time to read this newsletter. I hope that you've found it interesting and useful. Til next time... take care and Happy Stitching,

Lynne
