Needling Thoughts

OCTOBER 2005

COMING SOON...

"A Robin's Christmas"

This chubby little Robin can deliver your warmest season's greetings, a much appreciated gift certificate or just be a pretty addition to your tree at Christmas!

"A Robin's Christmas" embroidered envelope/Christmas ornament is the latest addition to series. I've stitched 2 models of this piece and each will soon be in the possession of someone who has chosen to support a 2005 needlework charity Christmas trees. One at Kelsey's Needle Krafts in Placerville, California and the other at Thread & Eye in London, Ontario. Please see below (Stitches of Hope) for more information about these trees.

AIR GUITAR

The little silhouettes in this piece are playing 'air guitar' in daylight, but both their bodies and their guitars become visible when the lights go out (if you prefer to eliminate the glow-in-the-dark option, you could stitch the perimeters with DMC 3348). Each of the figures that make up the larger design can be stitched quite quickly and easily as individual pieces for greeting cards and other smaller items. "Air Guitar" is my second Glow-in-the-Dark design... the first was "Pirate Treasure: The Oak Island Mystery"

This chart, like ALL of my designs, has NO fractional stitches

STITCHES OF HOPE

As I mentioned in the August newsletter, Kathy and Neale Unruh, (owners of Thread & Eye, my LNS) and I are presenting the store's first annual charity stitching event. All proceed's from this year's event will go to the London Abused Women's Centre. If you'd like to donate a handmade Christmas ornament to this very worthy cause or purchase raffle tickets, please contact Kathy and Neale at threadneye@3web.net

Stitchers, near and far, are generously donating their time and talent to fill the store's tree with hand-made Christmas ornaments and the London Abused Women's Centre will be very grateful for everyone's efforts on their behalf. Tickets to win the entire collection of ornaments (along with a gift certificate which can be redeemed for a live tree) are on sale at Thread & Eye, 699 Wilkins Street, London, Ontario and at the London Abused Women's Centre, 217 York Street. A draw will be held at 12 Noon on December 3, 2005 at Thread & Eye.

We've been receiving some incredibly beautiful pieces and are very lucky that Norma B. from California, the originator of this wonderful concept, is stitching a piece for our tree. She introduced the first Needlework Charity Christmas Tree for Kelsey's Needle Krafts in Placerville, California.

We've also been fortunate enough to receive ornaments from several talented designers...

A labour of love from Brenda Franklin of Brenda Franklin Designs

Kindly donated by Elizabeth Foster of Elizabeth's Designs

A beautiful donation from Linda Hinckley of Lavender Wings

A generous gift from a new designer, Monique Keylon of My Mark Designs

My own contribution to the charity trees

Unfortunately, we have some sad news to report. Thea Dueck, of The Victoria Sampler, very kindly mailed a Christmas ornament for our tree in April. I'm sorry to say that this piece has become lost in the mail system.

On behalf of Kathy, Neale, the London Abused Women's Centre and myself, I'd like to thank everyone who has donated their valuable time to this very worthy event.
