Needling Thoughts
OCTOBER 2006

As always, Fall arrived with practically no warning. Almost overnight, we went from heat-cracked gardens and dank humidity (accompanied by the persistent drone of thousands of air-conditioners) to the glorious blaze of Autumn.

The trees have been splendid this year and, although the winds were brisk and damp, I eagerly anticipated spending cosy Winter nights engrossed in a good book, sewing or knitting. Little did I know that our first snow-fall would arrive in the blink of an eye!

Magazine News

The Fall 2006 issue of A Needle Pulling Thread is now available. This beautiful, glossy magazine offers some gorgeous new projects that encompass a variety of needlearts... counted threadwork; quilting; rug-hooking; beading; knitting and doll-making. All this plus chatty information about designers and informative articles relating to needlework (there's one about the role embroidery played in the life of a Canadian soldier and an in-depth profile of a Nova Scotian sheep farm). Oh... there's also a special cross-stitch design from me.

Maria's Montage

I'm very fortunate to have heard from Maria Smit. She was so pleased with her 'Maple Leaf Montage' that she sent me a photo of it and has very kindly allowed me to display it.

Some Important Information (and gentle reminders)

In 2005, Wendy Mesley (a popular TV journalist and co-host of CBC's consumer show, 'Marketplace') was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Her diagnosis, subsequent treatment and recovery led her to investigate the rising incidence of all forms of cancer throughout North America. The end result was an informative and much-repeated television show, "Chasing the Cancer Answer" which exposed startling facts about the fight against cancer and our environment. CBC has also provided online tips about avoiding carcinogens in common household products.

Please don't forget to familiarize yourself with the signs of Ovarian Cancer and to ensure that the men in your life remember their PSA checks.
