Needling Thoughts
SPRING 2007

Remember SUMMERS

when you were a kid?

Those long, warm days that began with the sun, travelling on bright beams that slid along the gap between your curtains and the bedroom wall, gently whispering "Freedom" into your sleepy ear.

Coming soon...
A nostalgic piece of fun that will remind you of your childhood.

Stitcher Finish

I have a couple of reasons to thank Dale C. from NS.

For sending me a photo of her beautiful, customized stitching of the Hockey Player (shown the picture on the right). and for her patience... I'm sorry that it's taken me so long to update this page, Dale.

Dale chose to stitch her Player on 16-count Pewter Aida and made a few important changes to the original design.

She decided to make his skin colour a little lighter and then came up with a brilliant touch! The original pattern calls for the whole design to be stitched with a single strand of thread. Dale left the small black & white insert and the leaf as single strands but chose to stitch the blue and white figure with 2 strands - giving him a greater prominence in the piece.

Beautifully done, Dale!

Better Organized?

Some of us are born tidy and manage to sail through life knowing exactly where they put that's important to them. Then, there are those 'Others'. The ones who spend vast amounts of time trying to find where they put the kettle (perhaps the pantry?); the dog leash (under the pile of newspapers on the kitchen table) and their key... who knows, they could be anywhere!!!

Unfortunately, I belong to that 2nd tribe and a dog has a better chance of growing feathers than I have of ever experiencing the serene sense of well-being that must go along with being organized. Even we 'Others' make an occasional attempt to mend our ways and that's why you'll find my designs have been grouped into categories which, I hope, will make your visit a little less 'abstract'... Designs by Category.

Stitching on the Edge

The Embroiderer's Guild of Canada is holding its annual seminar in St. John's, Newfoundland this year. "Stitching on the Edge", will take place between May 15 to May 23 at the Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's.

While you're visiting the EAC site, don't forget to check out the latest news for young embroiderers by clicking on the "EAC Youth Site" link.

Creativ Festival

The Spring Creativ Festival is just around the corner. It's grown into an amazing extravaganza with experts onsite to guide and inspire your all your crafting adventures.

Carla Canonico will be there with some of the designers that have been, or will be, featured in her beautiful needlework magazine A Needle Pulling Thread.

This lovely magazine is available as a subscription, through your local needlework shop and at your favourite book shop.

Just a Little Reminder

In 2005, Wendy Mesley (a popular TV journalist and co-host of CBC's consumer show, 'Marketplace') was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Her diagnosis, subsequent treatment and recovery led her to investigate the rising incidence of all forms of cancer throughout North America. The end result was an informative and much-repeated television show, "Chasing the Cancer Answer" which exposed startling facts about the fight against cancer and our environment. CBC has also provided online tips about avoiding carcinogens in common household products.

Please don't forget to familiarize yourself with the signs of Ovarian Cancer and to ensure that the men in your life remember their PSA checks.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this newsletter. I hope you've enjoyed it. Til next time... take care,

Lynne
